Renting Traditional Homes to Build Community in Rural Nagano Snow Country - Ed Statham

Coronavirus has made teleworking a possibility and long vacations abroad where you can rent a beautiful rural house for a long workcation is becoming more of a possibility.

Ed Statham came to Japan on a break from his scuba dive business in Indonesia, and has renovated 3 abandoned houses in his small rural area to be used as rentals and has had great success with attracting tenants who are also helping to revive the community. Here he talks about renovation but also community building in rural Japan.

Ed Statham is one of the many inspiring people I met at the #MinkaSummit - here we talk about how he is making good use of abandoned MINKA (traditional Japanese houses) in the rural area of Nagano, in a beautiful mountaineous area called Nozawa.

Ed is originally from the UK has been living a life of contrasts as a scuba dive instructor and business entrepreneur in Indonesia and now settled in rural Nagano where he has done a few renovation projects on 100+ year old houses #minka #kominka

Looking forward to a lively chat about the Minka Summit, Ed's remodel projects, and future potential he sees for reviving rural areas and making good use of Japan's abandoned Kominka houses.
