Episode 2

Hiroshima's Historical Red Brick A-bombed Buildings You've Never Heard Of

Hiroshima's iconic symbol of the demolished ruin, the A-bomb dome, is safe from destruction as it has been secured World Heritage Status and is famous around the world. But this red brick structure 2.6 kilometers from the epicenter of the Atomic Bomb is also an important part of the story of war and peace in Japan.

This Deshio Army Uniform Depot is one of few Abombed buildings in the city, but the only one that dates back over 100 years spanning pre-war Japan. The warped and twisted metal doors, the broken bricks and the stories of loss and survival here play a valuable role telling the story of 1945 and even further back.

I hope you will be able to visit it for yourself too someday.
